Ziyuan Shi

KAUST provides a great research environment for me. Communication Engineering is a key technology for the future and it is a fun area.

About

Ziyuan Shi is currently a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Communication Theory Lab (CTL) under the supervision of Professor Mohamed-Slim Alouini at King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST). He recently completed his doctoral degree at the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences. Throughout his academic journey, he has focused on advancing the fields of single-photon communication, optical communication, quantum communication, channel modeling, and DSP algorithm design.

Education and Early Career

During his doctoral studies, he participated in several key projects:

(1) Development of a 100Gbit/s ultra-high-definition video transmission system based on atmospheric laser communication, where he was responsible for system simulation, setup, and experimentation.

(2) Contribution to the data transmission system for UAV platforms, involving system simulation, setup, and experimentation. He collaborated on modeling the uplink link for UAV-to-ground station communication.

(3) Design and development of a 40Gbps laser communication system, utilizing OQPSK modulation and designing advanced algorithms for bias control of the MZM modulator.

(4) Deep involvement in the Earth-Moon Optical Communication project, where he designed the downlink and developed advanced receiving algorithms, conducted thorough simulation verification, and engineered algorithms to achieve a high extinction ratio in the optical transmitter.

Research Interest

Ziyuan Shi's research interests lie primarily in the domains of optical communication, coherent optical communication, and quantum secure communication. He is particularly fascinated by the challenges and opportunities in developing high-speed, reliable communication systems that leverage advanced modulation techniques and robust channel modeling.
